Cong. Steve Scalise Shot, 1668

Synopsis: The third-most-powerful Republican in the U.S. House of Representatives, Steve Scalise from Lousiana, was shot at 7:09 this morning at a Congressional baseball practice in Alexandria, Virginia near the western bank of the Potomac river about 6 miles from the U.S. Capitol.
The Republican Congressmen were practicing for tomorrow night’s Congressional Baseball game. According to other Congressmen, who were done with practice and leaving the field, a man approached them and asked whether the folks on the field were Republicans or Democrats. They told him that this was a Republican practice and then got in their cars and left.
Over a period of 10 minutes, the shooter got off between 50 and 100 shots from a semi-automatic rifle. After apparently running out of ammo, the shooter came out from a building with a pistol and was taken down by police. He was initially said to be shot dead, however later reports say that he was transported to Northern Virginia’s Level 1 Trauma Center at Fairfax Hospital.
