US Woman raped, found on a st in a towel bleeding needed 4pints of blood & rapist had a dozens of supporters in court
Prosecutors showed a cell phone video in court among evidence against a former Old Town Fort Collins bartender accused of raping an 18-year-old woman.
Dennis Hanson, 29, told police he’d taken Viagra and Adderall the night of Dec. 17, 2012, because he planned to have sex with an 18-year-old promotional liquor distributor he’d met while working at the Yeti Bar and Grill, according to testimony from a Fort Collins police detective.
He first denied but later admitted in police interrogation to having sex with the “hammered” drunk woman, said police Det. Tessa Jakobsson at Tuesday’s preliminary hearing. Hanson is charged with felony sexual assault on a victim incapable of appraising conditions, and two misdemeanor counts of providing alcohol to a minor.
Hanson had invited the 18-year-old, who worked at next-door 100 Octane, and her 19-year-old roommate to his house on the 600 block of Louise Lane for a “drink,” according to his arrest affidavit. He and his roommate, Yeti barback Bojan Vuckovic, 25, served the women vodka shots before having sex with them, according to police. Both men were fired from the Yeti after their arrests.
Deputy District Attorney Shaun Reinhart showed District Judge Daniel Kaup several minutes of video of 18-year-old taken from Hanson’s cell phone. The video was played on a laptop computer and could only be seen by Kaup. It was unclear to the courtroom gallery what was shown, and most sounds were indecipherable except for a man’s voice:
“Do you want me to (expletive) you? Just tell me yes. Nod your head. ... Can I do whatever I want to you?”
Reinhart declined to comment on the video’s contents after court adjourned.
Sex-assault exams of the women at a hospital found the 18-year-old suffered multiple injuries the night of the alleged rape. She was “upset,” “crying” and “in pain” at the hospital, Jakobsson said.
The 19-year-old received four pints of blood and one pint of plasma after she was found “bleeding profusely” and wandering the neighborhood in a towel, police said at Vuckovic’s hearing.
In cases against both Hanson and Vuckovic, the alleged victims said they couldn’t remember having sex after taking several shots of vodka. Hanson told police that he, too was drunk and unable to drive to the police station for questioning. Under cross-examination from attorney Linda Miller, Jakobsson said no attempts were made to determine whether Hanson was drunk during his police interrogation.
Kaup found there to be enough evidence to keep Hanson’s case moving forward, and a disposition hearing was set for 1:30 p.m. April 18. Vuckovic, who was on parole when the rape is alleged, is scheduled for a jury trial starting May 13.
Hanson is free on $50,000 bond. More than a dozen of his supporters were seated in the gallery during Tuesday’s preliminary hearing
